Cliffs notes version of my hermeneutics class.

1. Approach Bible prayerfully and treat it as God's living Word. It is the authority and axiom.
2. Context -within sentence, paragraph, chapter, book, Bible
3. Promises- every promise in the book isn't mine. Take great care
-Is it universal in scope? (Rev 22:17)
-Is it personal? (Acts 18:9-10)
-Is it conditional? (James 4:8, Col 1:22-23)
4. INSIGHT: Find out who is speaking and who thy are addressing
5. INSIGHT: Consider their circumstances
6. No doctrine is to be formed on ambiguous passages
7. No doctrine to be formed on ONE passage that seems to contradicts many other Bible passages. We go with the many and pray for understanding about the verse that seems to contradict.
8. Let Scripture interpret Scripture. Topical references can be a great help for this. So can Bible study tools like www.e-sword.net

  • Great Message sister-friend! I love reading the bible and doing word studies (I use the Esword program, along with Strongs, Vincent Word studies, Vines, Thayer, Webster 1828, Briggs Driver hebrew lexicon, Naves, Torry topics,Vines. I think told you this already, LOL..) God Bless you and your loved ones in Jesus Name!

  • I like your reasoning, its close to my own.See when I read the OT, I look for what can it say to me in todays world, because the OT Laws are wrote for a nomad people to learn about God, see as Paul says the laws are good, but God knew no man could live by them and get life from them the laws only judge a man the 10 holy laws.

But if you keep the law of love you keep the 10 holy laws anyway.See the laws of God where to teach a nomad people that only by love can mankind please God not by laws.
