Step 1 - Attending the Robotics Team Meeting at Eastlake High School. In the first meeting, they watch a video of last year's competition
At the center of the room is last year's robot, "1294".
Joining the Robotics Team at Eastlake provided Gabriel with a whole wealth of valuable learning experience that he could not acquire elsewhere. He learned teamwork and social skills. The weekly meetings in summer enable Gabriel to share his ideas in a small group setting. He also learn that there are things that his 9-year old body is not ready yet --- for example operating power tools like electric drills and circular saws to build the robot. However, he is more than ready for programming and testing the robot. He learns perseverance and patience -- as the robot may not always behave in the same way that he has program it. He learns precious debugging skills to figure out what goes wrong. He gets to play with the robot and have fun. He gets to meet and interact with the older kids. He gets to see what a real competition is like, and watches other team and other robots in action.
All things considered, being with the Eastlake Robotic Team provided the most memorable experience for Gabriel this summer!!!
