Audix D series drum mic test

Just testing out the sound of my drum mics. D2 on the 1st 3 toms, D4 on tom 4 ans a D6 on the floor tom. D6 in the kick, 2 I5's on snare. 2 Behringer OH and one pointing at the kit from behind. Also have an SM57 over the mini timbales. Still getting some odd vibration sounds from the lower toms from the kick but I think a little gating will solve that. This has been EQ'd and some effects such as reverb and compression have been added. Let me know what you think. Drums are Pearl masters BRX, snare is an Ocheltree Phantom Steel.

Mad skillz man. What's your opinion on the mics you used for the toms? Do you like the Audix? Right now we're using SM57s and it sounds OK. Just wondering if the difference would be drastic enough to justify the purchase. Thanks.

@meedily Thanks. I really do like the Audix mics. I think that the difference would be noticeable because the Audix D2 and D4 mics are specifically designed for use on toms. How much of a difference i'm not sure. I've never tried using a SM57 on the toms before. But I do use a 57 on my mini timbales and I think that there is a fullness that the D2 and D4 brings out that the 57 doesn't have.

First, thanks for the compliment. I appreciate it. The I5 has a more aggressive sound to my ear. I'm trying to think of the best way to describe the sound characteristics. The I5 is more edgy and cutting in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, the 57 is great and sounds similar to the I5, but I prefer the I5 because of that little extra presence it seems to have.

How do you like the Audix i5 compared to the Shure Sm-57 for snare? Also awesome playing, I really dig your drum sound!
