This one's electrifying! The combination of rough recording, steam-engine-like back-up and brass arrangements and Helene's rough and self-confident voice is precisely what Rock'n Roll should be about. She strongly reminds me of Ruth Brown, Lilian Briggs and Wanda Jackson and I'd love to listen to more of her songs. Tanks for again posting this one!
Helene Dixon was really a much better singer than this Chuck Berry remake indicates. She had a way with a sophisticated, orchestrated ballad when she was given one. Unfortunately she was mainly given "jump tunes" & "novelties" on her 50's recording dates. And the only thing that seems to get mentioned today is this remake. One thing I do find fascinating about this recording is how convincing Helene was able to sing Rock & Roll. She really rips into this one. A talented, versatile lady.
too toppy less treble would allow our tracks to be listened to.
