  • That is not a 286. I had a 486DX250 and it wasn't that smooth.

  • Are you kidding? I had this on a 286-12 mhz and it ran like this. Nice 486 you had there...

    By the way, in 1992 I had a 286-16 mhz and ran it. It was as smooth as shown in the video. Videogame press of that time said smoothness was awesome.

  • Let me remind you that you used a CPU some 250 times faster than a 286, to emulate a 286. That would result in improved speed anyway.

    It was bordering on fraud. I mean it was like a burger add. Nice pictures but the reality is different. The reality was that it was so bugged that it was barely playable. It should never have been sold in this version.

  • @mynamesforest The blitter can be programmed to fill the polygons while the CPU does other things. In a way that makes the Amiga one of the first 3d accelerators. It indeed made a big difference. Having said that, the Amiga version of this game was not that fast, and the PC version was by far the fastest 3d game out there.

  • This vid made me feel more sad about my 286 breaking down several years ago.

  • @jojoreloaded I originally played this on a 10 MHz XT, and it was playable. Then I got a 386SX-16, and it was super-smooth.

    Ofcourse a decent VGA card was required. I had a WD Paradise on both. Slow cards like Oak, Trident or Realtek may bog down the system too much.

    A 486 would be way overkill indeed.

  • this was a smooth game. howevere the latter part of the vid is speeded up making it look like a higher framerate than it actually is

  • amiga version was rushed and bug-ridden. not great on a 7.19mhz cpu anyway...

  • @vapourmile People on here said that the Amiga version was terrible compared to the PC one, and I see what they mean: No music, only beeps. If this 3D engine is optimised for the Amiga then it shows how unsuitable it was for 3D as it was. As said, I never heard of this game when I was at school. I was playing stuff like Stardust, Alien Breed, Cannon Fodder, Sensi, Lemmings and Ultimate Soccer Mgr. I tried a few doom clones too, but by the time I got round to upgrading, getting a PC was cheaper.

  • @nicholasthetaylor You'd have to point to examples of games you think are better than this since Martin Kenwright's DID were regarded as having one of the most technically sophisticated and fastest 3D engines of the time.

  • @jojoreloaded I tried to run it in a 286 12 mhz with 512kb of Ram, don't remember the error message but it didn't work. Maybe was something about the video card (CGA monochrome)

  • this game was stupid, f/a 18 was the king of the old school Flight Sims

    i say that because i never got anywhere on it, and had no manual for it!
