In June 2008 Ruggie presented a policy framework to the Human Rights Council for better understanding and advancing the business and human rights agenda.

"This policy framework consisted of three core principles, which were fleshed out in the report: the principle of the state's duty to protect against human rights abuses by third parties, including business; corporate responsibility to respect human rights, which essentially means to do no harm; and the need for greater access by victims to remedy, both judicial and nonjudicial."

This Carnegie Council event took place on October 28, 2008. For the complete video, audio, and transcript, go to http://www.carnegiecouncil.org or http://www.policyinnovations.org

  • Rights are bestowed onto all living-systems by the Laws of Nature at conception. And in saying that, business and human Rights share the same Rights. On the other hand, are manmade edicts, labeled as rights, implemented at will by man. See: youtube.com/watch?v=tdNYVZQYJqI
