8-Step Praying Mantis: Babu Zhai Yao - Yi Lu

This is a "walk-thru" of the 8-Step Praying Mantis form: "Babu Zhai Yao - Yi Lu". Its not long ago I learned the set, so be gentle with the critique, he he! :) This is by no way an "ultimate", fullspeed version of the form, just going through it, trying to get things right.

i think that the speed of the form was perfect. the point of doing forms is not to finish quickly, but to do each movement with clarity and intent. i think that's coming through in your practice! nice!

The man in the video or my teacher? My teacher is now a master which is equivalent to, I think, 5th or 6th degree black belt. I'll have to double check that. As for the man in the video, I'm not sure of his degree. I am going for my black belt in the spring and I have not yet learned that set, so he's probably 1st or 2nd black belt (Dan).

8 step praying mantis is a very complex, deep system that is fast, powerful, and effective. Pursue it only if you are prepared to learn and practice extensively. My teacher obtained the master level not too long ago, and he still has many years of study ahead of him.
