I ran into this video and your story just completely took my breath away. I can't begin to imagine what an overwhelming feeling it was to meet your parents and especially your mother for the first time. I'm not an adoptee but I have a cousin who is a Korean adoptee as well and he is still searching for his parents (I believe). I am a big korean culture enthusiast and hope to go back there again sometime this year. I hope you can rest much easier knowing that you have met your parents. Cheers

I like your heartfelt video.

Please, do not feel quilty for being who you are....there are tons of Koreans with Korean parents and partial growing up in Korea, pretending to be so westernised and deny Korean identity. It is natural to feel anxious and nervous of the unknown but you will have a great time if you are open minded. Just expect bit of culture shock as I have returning after 20 years in Australia. Good luck!!

I am a Korean Adoptee as well...how did you find your parents?

Ah, your boyfriend is Korean ;) His family must be somewhat progressive in their thinking, eh? ;) Have a wonderful time and have fun checking out your options for studying abroad...

.. PLUS ㅋ My boyfriend ... he's Korean and he lives there, I'll be staying with him and his family for my 7 week trip. We met while he was studying here in the U.S but he's since had to go back because of money. : ( ... So, yes our trips are very different, but I'm sure you're going to enjoy it there because it'll truly be a life-changing event ^ ^ (understatement).

Hi : ) That's good, the cumber kind is good too : D and that's really great your husband likes Korean food ^ ___ ^ It is so delicious : P! I can't live without it ㅋㅋ --- Well, it's been my dream to go to Korea for .. about 6 years now. I want to do a study abroad 2010 - 11 so I'm going to check out the campus and see which city I like best (I also want to teach English there after graduation) .
You don't like Kimchi!? No .. you can't survive in Korea without Kimchi ㅋㅋ it's like .. breathing to them : ) ! I'd learn some simple Korean phrases and things to say. ^ ____ ^ 만나서반갑습니다 (Nice to meet you), 안녕하세요 (Hello), 감사합니다 (Thank You) ...Btw I'm not Korean .... Just very interested in it's culture ...I'll also be going to Korea this summer for the 1st time, but for much different reasons than you .. I hope you have a fabulous trip ... All luck :D

Kate...thanks for your feedback...i know, i know--not liking Kimchi is shameful. Oh well. I don't mine the cucumber kind...but my hubby loves it all! and yes, I have learned some basic phrases, including those you listed. What are your reasons for going to Korea this summer? We'll have to compare notes...although we no doubt will have very different experiences simply due to the different nature of our visits...
