OBJECTIVE:
This lesson in Suminagashi- Japanese paper marbeling will introduce basic paper marbling techniques using waterbased inks, construction paper and a few simple tools. Marbling is a technique used to decorate surfaces. Pigment dyes are floated on water then manipulated to create patterns or designs. A sheet of paper is placed on the surface of the water, then gently lifted off to obtain a "print" of the dye pattern.

REBECCA RAMOS is an artist and on staff in the Art Department at Monterey Peninsula College. A graduate of University of Colorado she studied Printmaking at the California College of Arts and Crafts.
Rebecca will feature a lesson in Suminagashi- Japanese paper marbeling. A lesson that will introduce basic paper marbling techniques using waterbased inks, construction paper and a few simple tools.
