  • Sorry pecker, music experts from all over the world placed KCO on nr.1, Berliner on nr.2 and Wiener on nr.3 in the latest edition of Gramophone. As for Jansons repertoire it ain´t that limited, besoides I prefer quality over quantity... Jansons and KCO is a match made in heaven, they love and respect eachother and you can clearly hear that, that kind of magic I missed with Chailly.

  • GOOD HORN SOLOS,,,,,,,,,,,^^

  • @monfra Mahler's 2nd has come out on dvd, and the entire Mahler cycle including this concert can be watched on 'Avro klassiek portaal' I hope that helps.

  • ooooh, a hairspliting ratings flame war between devoted passive listeners - just what I look forward to when I click on a link to one of the worlds top orchestras playing anything.... :-/

  • This Orchestra sounds good but either the audio is been treated or the Berliner Phil sounds better on Video.

Better acoustics, better space and instrument sense.

    Not to say about dynamics.

Still as far as sound goes,i put the Berlin and Chicago orchestras above the Concertgebouw.I just prefer their sound.

Vienna is cool or some instruments like the Wiennese oboe which you only get there.

Should i mention that i am based on CD's and Videos, cannot compare them objectively.

  • Concertgebouw Orchestra is simply the best!!!!!!!!!

  • I love the youthful appearance of many of the concertgebouw players. It seems as if many of the players are from a younger generation, as compared to other orchestras such as Chicago where many of the players have held their position for 40 of 50 years.

  • Very good music making, both orchestra and conductor. High level. However, I think Bernstein and the Wiener Phil achieved the perfect interpretation of Mahler's ideas and inner world.

  • I think this is refined music making and that we should have a bit of respect for a live performance of this quality. Just a personal opinion...

  • The Vienna Philharmonic is in a class of its own the exact limited repertoire you say that Jansons has. The truth is that Jansons's repertoire isn't enormous, but it isn't as small as that either.

I think Jansons is a great conductor who is absolutely wrong for the Concertgebouw. I agree that they should have hired a much younger man: Saraste would have been a good choice, but also Vladimir Jurowski or Paavo Jarvi.

  • please explain, because i just heard your video and i'm so far not convinced
