The latest batch of King Crimson 40th Anniversary edition have been released and my copy of "Starless and Bible Black" arrived today. I was naturally keen to hear what they had done to the album with regards to the 5.1 surround sound mix and was pleasantly surprised by the renewed power of the album.

Darren, I stumbled upon this as I am diving into a King Crimson addiction... and I must say... not only do I really enjoy you talking about your love for Crimson, I really hope you do more reviews from the garden! It adds such a nice atmosphere to the video. Cheers!

Darren, IMHO the stereo mix of the 30th anniversary ¨HDCD¨ sounds more raw and edgy than Mr. Wilson´s mixes of the audio cd (on the other hand DVD 5.1 its superb)
But in my book, i prefer the 30th ann audio cd. Don´t you think?

I was talking about the 5.1 mix in the video. I don't really count the new stereo mixes as "canon", if you know what I mean. They are OK, there is nothing fundamentally wrong with them, but I would always go back to the 30th Anniversary ones.

My least favourite of the Wetton era but that doesn't say it's also near perfect. "Nightwatch" is soo good. Even the idea of making a song out of a painting... :)

The difference is the 5.1 mix - it's not just an upmix from stereo (like the title track from In The Wake of Poseidon), the masters were used to remix the thing in 5.1.
