  • I have this recollection of Bartlet saying to Leo, IO'm pretty sure it was over this incident, that they might have to stand trial before the I.C.C. If this goes bad, or something like that.

  • @jokr8790 Believe he was speaking in the abstract. There was never an indication that the US under Bartlett had signed the agreement...only that Bartlett and McGarry were sympathetic to the idea. But, hey, it was a fictional presidency. Only Sorkin knows for sure!!!

  • My recollection of the plot was that Sharif was involved in the planning stages of a plot to bomb the Golden Gate Bridge. This is a huge political decision on the part of a President. Politically governments can't be involved in assassinations of foreign governments. It came back to bite him on the ass with the kudnapping of Zoe. Also, on The West Wing the U.S. had signed the treaty that made the U.S. subject to the jurisdiction of the I.C.C.

  • @jokr8790 Don't recall them ever saying that Bartlett had signed the treaty...just that he was in favor of it over the military's strong objections.

  • @saulpaulus In Posse Commitatus one of the "gang of 7" mentions it to Leo when they are informed about the plan.

  • @andreicmello Me too

  • @jokr8790 What makes me really sad is that in the DVD commentary for the season 4 finale Sorkin mentions he would have handled the whole "zoe kidnapping" completely different. He wanted Nancy to be right when she raised the ball on how amateur the whole kidnapping looked. Makes you wonder how different the show would be if Sorkin was still a part of it. Makes me kinda sad :(

  • Yet another scene that proves that The West Wing was one of the best TV shows ever produced. Wish there were more like it out there now. Thought-provoking, emotional, intelligent.

  • @PeterFormaini - Leo's argument isn't that the U.S. has to kill Sharif because he's killed innocents, it's that the U.S. has to kill Sharif because he's killed American innocents. I don't think that there are 30 countries in the West-Wing-universe (o the actual universe) with high-ranking officials who have masterminded terrorist attacks that targeted Americans.

  • @swansandtyphus Actually, as a historian, I'm not sure how much more 'nice' to Hitler France, Britain, and the united States could have been.......
