Feita segundo indicações da Irmã Lúcia, a primeira Imagem da Virgem Peregrina de Fátima foi oferecida pelo Sr. Bispo de Leiria e coroada solenemente pelo Sr. Arcebispo de Évora, a 13 de Maio de 1947. A partir dessa data, a imagem percorreu, por diversas vezes, o mundo inteiro, levando consigo uma mensagem...

A 13 de Maio de 1917, três crianças apascentavam um pequeno rebanho na Cova da Iria, freguesia de Fátima, concelho de Vila Nova de Ourém, hoje diocese de Leiria-Fátima. Chamavam-se Lúcia de Jesus, de 10 anos, e Francisco e Jacinta Marto, seus primos, de 9 e 7 anos.
Por volta do meio dia, depois de rezarem o terço, como habitualmente faziam, entretinham-se a construir uma pequena casa de pedras soltas, no local onde hoje se encontra a Basílica. De repente, viram uma luz brilhante; julgando ser um relâmpago, decidiram ir-se embora, mas, logo abaixo, outro clarão iluminou o espaço, e viram em cima de uma pequena azinheira (onde agora se encontra a Capelinha das Aparições), uma "Senhora mais brilhante que o sol", de cujas mãos pendia um terço branco.

On 13 May 1917, three children were pasturing their little flock in the Cova da Iria, parish of Fatima, town of Vila Nova de Ourém. today the diocese of Leiria-Fatima. They were called: Lucia de Jesus, aged 10, and her cousins Francisco and Jacinta Marto, aged 9 and 7.
About midday, after praying the Rosary, as was their custom, they were amusing themselves building a little house of stones scattered around he place where the Basilica now stands. Suddenly they saw a brilliant light, and thinking it to be lightning, they decided to go home. But as they went down the slope another flash lit up the place, and they saw on the top of a holmoak (where the Chapel of Apparitions now stands), "a Lady more brilliant than the sun", from whose hands hung a white rosary.

CHAPEL OF APPARITIONS
The very heart of the Sanctuary. It was the first edifice constructed in the Cova da Iria, at the place of Our Lady´s Apparitions. The exact spot is marked by a marble pillar on which the Statue of Our Lady is placed. Here converge the four million pilgrims who visit the Sanctuary each year.

BASILICA
Begun in 1928 and consecrated on 7 October 1953, its 15 altars are dedicated to the 15 mysteries of the Rosary.
The painting above the high altar depicts the Message of Our Lady to the little shepherds, prepared by the Angel of Portugal, through their encounter with Christ in the Eucharist. The Bishop of the diocese is shown kneeling on the left side, and the figures of Pope Pius XII (who consecrated the world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1942, and whose Legate crowned the Statue of Our Lady in 1946), of Pope John XXIII and Pope Paul VI.
Scenes of the apparitions are represented in stained glass, as well as invocations from the Litany of Our Lady.
In the four corners of the Basilica interior are placed the statues of the great apostles of the Rosary and of devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary: St. Anthony Claret, St. Dominic of Gusman, St. John Eudes and St. Stephen, King of Hungary.
The tombs of Francisco and Jacinta are in the Basilica, and, in the chancel, are the mortal remains of D. José Alves Correia da Silva, first Bishop of Leiria after its restoration in 1920.
The monumental organ, mounted in 1952, has about 12 thousand pipes.

PERPETUAL ADORATION CHAPEL
Situated at the end of the colonnade, on the eastern side, this chapel for perpetual adoration of the Blessed Sacrament exposed, is a place of silent prayer and adoration.

A Igreja não obriga ninguém a dar esmola.Já o Estado, impõe-nos o pagamento de impostos, taxas, etc.Ou seja, a nova igreja , não tem lá um céntimo meu.E os BMW's, Mercedes e Volvos, topo de gama, que os ministros ostentam?É a essa tropa que devem mostrar a vossa indignação e não à Igreja, pois, não sendo a isso obrigada, é capaz de fazer pelos pobres, mais que o próprio Estado.Insurjam-se contra TGVês, Alcochetes e submarinos e peçam a Deus para vos abrir os olhos e a mente.

This modern church was designed by a Greek Orthodox architect. Shame on him. It looks like a VFW meeting hall. It is cold and impersonal with almost no religious iconography sans the muted frescoes behind the altar and the lone statue of the Virgin. Is that all? Why all the massive blank white walls? It looks like a high school basketball court. Shame on these ugly Protestant looking post Vatican II churches--they should be destroyed.

@tlarosa we are living in vatican 2 the its up to us to Build the Church the people of God to be built up in Evangelisation however while there persist Idolatry and False worship in the church and false ideas we can never be changed until we make Jesus our Lord and forsake our personal ideas of worship of Buildings and statues and Mary Vatt Two is correcting this error to Worship God alone Icons are to point us to Christ and God and are not to be the object of worship

God deserves the best - not some pagan house. Why do you think the Church built all the beautiful Cathedrals of the past? For the glory and honour of God! Are you then criticizing for what the Church did in the past?

This place is a work of the devil to destroy the Church of all its beauty. It is a fruit of Vatican II.

@tlarosa My dearest that might be your personal view our focus should NOT be on building we are the church of Jesus His sweetest body on the earth this church is magnificent compared to the poorest of poor in papua new Guinea and others that I'm helping to raise money because there church building is made out of mud hope you forgive the bishop

Its Fantastic and the cross isn't my liking but thats my personal view everything else I love our focus should be on worship Towards God in heaven and we as catholics should no that we don't need certain types of buildings to pray in, we need to grow up in our faith and we should wake up and stop being so critical about a building the church is the people of God and this is a magnificent place to turn our eyes towards heaven and to pray to God directly,

The new Church in Fatima is so ugly indeed! There is almost impossible to pray normally. It looks like a hall...
