The Battle of Salamis was fought between an Alliance of Greek city-states and the Persian Empire in September 480 BC in the straits between the mainland and Salamis, an island in the Saronic Gulf near Athens. It was a clear victory for the Greeks and the Persian attempt to conqueror the Peloponnese failed.

  • @flemmington17 Most of people reading Greceo-Persian Wars and thing that Persians just invade Greeks from the East. You have to realize that persians did a common attack to Greece with Carthagenians attacking the Greek Colonies at Sicily, there at the battle of Himera (and few More) a Corinthian General stop a massive army of Carthageneans. Its was a global war that tried to bow down the West Culture. Also Greco-Persian wars didnt ended at the battle of Platea,Greeks did counter-attacks to Persia

  • @lolvladimir Thank you for your comment.

The term 'trireme' is a reference to the number of banks of oarsmen. You are correct that there were large differences in the types of warships deployed (the Persian ships being heavier than the Greek warships and carrying more marines). However, they were still of the trireme class of ship and the description is therefore accurate.

I'll try and make this clearer when we eventually remake this video.

  • Great video but the persians ships are not called Triremes
