You are correct! I have a map showing future plans and it shows Westcot, a west coast version of Epcot, taking up most of the parking lot as well as the area that is now Downtown Disney.
The story I heard was that they could not buy up all the land they needed. Someone owned an old farm and wouldn't sell to Disney. So the plans were put on hold and faded into a retro kitch. Now we have CA instead and I'm glad we got it instead!

@iuseapowermacg4 Actually there's no way he would have known. Cause Disney was actually planning a different theme park at that time to be called Westcot. I read on Wikipedia that it was announced in 1995, but for some good reason, it didn't happen.

Those are the days when parking was so convenient no brainer I kind of wish they kept it like that. More people go to disneyland than California Adventure.

I remember that old sign when I was a kid. Changed so much, but the parking structure is much faster and easier to find your car. Did they get rid of the tram stop that went to Timon parking area? The one with the big green cones?

I wonder if the city of Anaheim or Disneyland paid to have the power lines relocated! They use to go straight through the old parking lot (now known as Disney's California Adventure) but now wrap around the park. That had to of been one FAT bill!

@spacenutstou you got that right! the parking structure is a nightmare,and if it fills up they park you 1/2 a mile away across from the convention center! when they first started doing that they made you WALK to the park entrance. now they have shuttle buses,but it's still time consuming. i'm glad i live close enough to where i can take the local bus which drops me off near the katella walkway entrance. i avoid parking there as much as possible.

I can't believe they put CA Adventurer in this parking lot. When I'm over in CA ADV I'm like well we are in a parking lot lol

It's almost seems like you shot this footage knowing that the area was going to change. Plans for California Adventure weren't announced for another few years.

I agree, It felt weird looking at that empty parking lot. I was there looooong before they put in California Adventure, and now I cant picture that area w/out C.Adventure...I miss the 90s as well too
