This is not an airplane. It flies over the water surface in a low altitude to achieve better efficiency. The model is a demonstrator of canard type WISES, a high speed ship concept. Length: 3.6m, Width: 2.4m, Model name: Kaien-2.

  • The limited length and towing speed of usual experimental basin is not enough for testing an extremely high-speed ship. Therefore, we have conducted tests of radio controlled models (see youtu.be/gyLwK7Akx2I). In the next step, we have to get funds to build a small experimental ship of two-seat capacity.

  • Wonderful looking beastie, congratulations on a very slick looking design. Looks very controllable. Are there sensors for semi-autopilot (distance from surface, lean angle, etc)?

  • The model does not have height sensors. We tested ultra-sound distance meters for just sensing the pitch angle and altitude from the water. We want to build a semi-auto controlled model in the future.

  • Is there a pilot in it or a rc model? It floats on air lazily like a air baloon.

  • It is radio controlled. The operator is on the accompanying boat that you can see in the video.

  • @hakmt This oscillation might however reappear facing any ondulated water which would be difficult measure and assess. How are you planning to counter that without more elaborate national scale WIG design support? I imagine you would normally need a straight bassin with wave inducer practically on 1:1 scale model, or agree internally that some research is such a huge risk factor, that significant effort should be put into electronics in order to fix the unknown.

  • @krbosak I think the canard configuration can be stable if it is properly designed. We are using an S-shaped wing section in the main wing to reduce the pitching moment change instead of installing a large horizontal tail. It still needs minor modification to remove pitching oscillation.

  • @hakmt Well it is oscillating in pitch quite a lot. russian ones were crashed because of this. Is is unstable because of being canard wig? don't know.

  • I want this!

  • this looks amazing what is the lowest possible speed?

  • maximum speed?

  • I like the gracefulness of it all.

  • i know its an ekranoplane, but its not a ship as in the description, its like a plane-ship mix, right?

  • thta is truly impressive , japan will always be the best!

may i ask you if you used any gyros? how about the final verson say for one passenger? will it be as slow and stable and at what size ?

    thanx alot
