Ophthalmologist / Vitreoretinal Surgeon Machteld I. Bosscha will show a case of a combined 23G phaco-vitrectomy procedure for a 87-year old patient with cataract and a macular pucker. This procedure is performed under local subtenon anaesthesia and takes one hour. It is very satifying for a patient to undergo just one operation and the results are excellent.

  • No, the eye will be filled by normal eye fluid that is already there. At an older age (>65) there is not much vitreous left. These eyes are filled with eye fluid. This is fortunate, because vitreous can be very harmful to the retina, like in this case.
