The Trap: What Happened to Our Dream of Freedom is a BBC documentary series by English filmmaker Adam Curtis, well known for other documentaries including The Century of the Self and The Power of Nightmares. It began airing on BBC Two on 11 March 2007.

The series consists of three, one-hour programmes which explore the concept and definition of freedom, specifically "how a simplistic model of human beings as self-seeking, almost robotic, creatures led to today's idea of freedom."

  • An elite is an elite! Old or new. Power does not disappear, it just shifts else where. It is true throughout history

  • By the book was never as oppressive as what we have now. Pay your government mandated auto insurance on time every month no matter what. If you are one day late you will pay a $250 fine to the government. If you don't pay your auto registration on time you will go to jail for driving on a suspended license. This is freedom?

  • @paulism1984 Don't get too worked up about it, mate. Irony is rarely understood, whether in real life, or on the Internet.

  • @bamb04 Maybe I'll be the first person you'll hear that hates that word "noobs." Think about what message your sending when each time you say it. I don't see it as any different than gaining a feeling of self worth and value as though you walked into a kindergarten classroom and had a good laugh at the 5 years olds painting and learning basic stuff. "Ha ha Noobs, finger painting is easy don't you get it?"

Did someone call you a noob with disdain when you learned about power relationships?

  • @leopheard Have you even watched any of the documentaries you are commenting on? Your comments are idiotic given that the point being made is one about the mechanisation of human consciousness. Whether or not insurance or even government is of value is irrelevant when the harm done by its existence is far greater than the protection it offers you Bozo!!

  • @smartification1 It's the government looking after the greater good. If you are driving you need to be licenced so you are safe, and also insured so if you destroy someone's house your insurance can pay for it rather than selfish individuals not caring about what the consequences of their actions are.

  • The music in the second minute is from the Carrie soundtrack.

  • Noobs. You can't transcend relations of power, just balance them.

  • @AbattoirDream lolreptiles

  • i smell nonsense.. youll never understand politics if you only look at the public face of it.. the public face is just a PLAY full of ACTORS.. go behind this bullshit and look into the mystery schools that REALLY tie the world elite together.

youtube: bill cooper, david icke, michael tsarion.. do your own research, this is nonsense

  • This is such a fascinating film. Adam Curtis is great at collecting visuals. This is like a Thomas Pynchon novel in documentary form.
