Due: September 2, 2010.
Project explaining one of the elements of poetry.
-------------------------
The tone of a poem is, basically, the mood it creates in the reader. So it's like the psychiatrist of the elements of poetry.
Poems can be interpreted in many ways but usually there are hints within the text.
For example: In "The Hollow Men" by T.S. Eliot there are lines that allude to sadness.
Between the desire
And the spasm
Between the potency
And the existence
Between the essence
And the descent
Falls the Shadow
The Hollow men will be remembered as men who are hollow, filled with the wrong ideas and choices.
Tone can be based on the other elements of poetry as well. If you find a poem exciting maybe it's because the meter was pretending to be a horse.
Tone is dependent on the rest of the elements of poetry.
