@rockytheyorky Did Backlund and Hogan have a match years ago in Philly where Backlund was in a bloody mess? The match of them on youtube is not it.Maybe I'm wrong.But thats what I thought I remembered.I was only a kid in those days.

I believe the belt Larry uses was one of Verne's old AWA world title belts.

2 underrated wrestlers who usually had entertaining matches with their opponents. Larry Zbyszko was very nice when my brother and I met him as well, very funny.

larry zbyszko was a great wrestler too though. also he was very loyal to the awa. yes he did marry vernes daughter. i met him and he was really a nice guy. he signed my book. (his book) adventures in larryland. i was cheering for zbyszko before it was cool to cheer for zbyszko haha. yeah i think he deserved to be the world champ.

@styx4ever1963 That was why Larry got the AWA World title. That way Verne kept control of the belt by keeping it in the family. Larry got the Americas title because he was so well known to Northeast fans from his years in WWF.

In working for the Philadelphia Spectrum I got to know Bob backlund on a personal level and you could not ask for a nicer person and he became a great friend,and every time he wrestled in the Spectrum he always made a big deal when he saw me and i appreciated that then and still do today.backlund was a class act from beginning to end,and Hulk Hogan could not tie his shoe laces,then or now.

@zaius316 That's because after the fall of 85' you never saw Slaughter with the physical belt. The AWA did have a belt for it but it just disappeared. The AWA could have added another reason for fans to care about what was going on there, but they dropped the ball completely. When Slaughter left in 86' the belt was never talked about again. The WWF had the intercontinental title, the NWA had the US belt, the AWA had the Americas title for a little over a year but scrapped it. What a waste.
