Shirley Verrett was a great Tosca. For one thing, this scene with Cornell Macneil is better than the one MacNeil did with Hildegard Behrens in '84 at the Met. Verrett had a splendid voice for Tosca - rich, dark, lyric and excellent from top to bottom. She clearly also gets into character very well. This was really great.

Great singers, superb interpretations,Bravi to them both, would have loved to see them both in these roles live.

The way she delivers, "...son Tosca, o Scarpia!" is worth the price of admission.
