Schenectady, NY Considers Implementing Martial Law To Clean Up Policing!!

A New York State city is considering implementing martial law and replacing the local police force with National Guardsmen, in an effort to clean up law enforcement in the area.

The remarkable idea comes in response to a rise in police corruption and illegal activity in Schenectady, according to a Capital News 9 report.

City officials are reportedly considering scrapping the entire police force in response to the actions of a small selection of officers who have been accused of assaulting citizens.

While other options have been raised, such as a consolidated county-wide police force diverting authority to the State Police, Mayor Brian Stratton has indicated that he believes the Governor could declare martial law during a period of transition.

It may be that as a stopgap measure, that you would need military forces - State Police, National Guard. the Mayor said.

Its a contrived scenario, said the mayor. But its not beyond the realm of possibilities if you go that particular route.

Schenectadys Corporation Counsel John Van Norden said, If you abolish the police department you still have a need - not an obligation - but a need to police the community. You would need something in transition. Declaring martial law would be one way to bridge the gap.

Ok i live in schenectady ny and ive lived here my whole life and im 21 now and this whole militia thing is out of the question. all we need is more cops doing the right thing and not turning on us. schenectady isnt all bad ive lived on some bad streets and also next to drug dealers but yet i live here still and i have a child why do i stay cause like i said its not as bad as everyone says it is. I now live on a clean street that has 0% drug dealers and i havnt seen a single cop on my street.

Let me start off with asking you a question....Are you FROM Schenectady? 25 to 30 miles FROM Schenectady......Sad to say this but, I lived In Schenectady for over 26 years...2nd..Schenectady is NOT a TOWN....It's a CITY with a population of 151,427 people...So let's get your facts straight huh...And I lived on Summit / Lincoln, Etc....Schenectady has been in poor shape for a while....So like I said...if you are going to report news on a CITY..make sure you get your facts right....moron! lol

Hard to believe the comments on here from Schenectady citizens. You guys sound like a bunch of pussies. If things are that bad start a local miltia, have the sheriff deputize people, patrol your own streets for a while with neighborhood watches, there is no legal justification for martial law if there's any real men in your town. I am a United States Marine from Schenectady, on leave for a while. Let me tell you, either Marshall Law or State Police, either option is better than SPD. Schenectady is a city, not a suburban area. It is bad. I had a Marine Flag stolen right off my house on Sunday night. Look it up on Daily Gazette's website. It is that bad.
