SOUNDS GREAT!!! Love the Way it idle's!!!! Just got a 68 Buick and want to have it sound like that!! Im thinking of changing the intake and cam but not sure if its the right thing to do? Any Vids or explaination of what you had done?
@sociogenetics yeah but eather way it does sound good when it revs up
and there are a few reasons for under building a 383 i went through it with mine i had a nice sized budget of 7 grand for it then i got laid off and and i had already bought the rotating assembly so i had to skimp on a lot of stuff to get it running with no income
@SuBN01z3RaT Unlikely. It's a rare engine, so chances are you'd want to point out it's not the far more common GM 350 stroked to 383. And why would someone put a small cam in an engine built for HP? Plus, why would you be comparing a stock Daimler big block to a modified small blocks idle? Anyway, when a GM sm has no back pressure they tend to idle really rough on the verge of stalling. My guess is it's a fairly stock engine and, like you said, the cam's too small for open headers.
@sociogenetics have you ever heard a 400 with a steady idle? i have all the time a 383 can have a steady idle with a small cam but that thing just sounds like its trying to die mine will sound like that if i let it idle at 400rpm, at 700 rpm it sounds choppy but not like its going to die like this thing does and not how do you know im even talking about a 383 stroker i could be talking about a big block dodge

@SuBN01z3RaT 1-that's a stroked 350.
2-I've never heard a 383 with a steady idle.

@sociogenetics my 383 was on open headers and sounded nothing like that
SuBN01z3RaT 6 months ago
@SuBN01z3RaT That'll happen when you have no back pressure on a 350.
