The Sri Lanka Navy is geared to face any LTTE challenge. Its Media Spokesman Commander Mahesh Karunaratne opined that the Navy had the necessary strength to do so.

He said the LTTE had been continuously carrying out suicide attacks in the past. They used a many vessels for this purpose. They had increased the number of suicide attacks in the recent past. The Army is maintaining a vigil using all resources in its possession to face this challenge.
Expressing views on the initiatives taken by them to rescue the civilians from the grip of the terrorists without hindering them, Commander Mahesh Karunaratne said the biggest challenge they confronted with the arrival of displaced persons in vessels is to identify them. The Navy has so far not harmed a single displaced person. It had rescued 20,000 civilians. All their needs are being met.
