Bulldozers demolish posh houses

The roads ministry began a new phase of demolition of houses in Nairobi's Kitusuru estate to pave way a for road construction. Roads minister Franklin Bett who led the exercise says the government will not spare anyone whose structures have encroached road reserves. The minister said that the contractor working on the northern bypass was due to start work and the ministry needed pave way.

Such things send bad signals about our laws and regulations to people who want to invest in the property market. We have a 150,000 annual shortfall of housing and investors are jittery about building housing estates only to have them demolished later....

@drsugarcane I agree with you on investors. Either way this strikes me as a little strange. Didn't they demolish houses right after Kibaki became president in 2003? There was talk of houses in Runda going down, but nothing became of that. Why suddenly this isolated demolition? This is not the only house built on a bypass, if it's a crackdown let it be genuine and let nobody be spared.

Most probably the bribe to remain there wasn't fat enough, so they knocked the house down!! Too funny the guy is rich so he will rebuild!! :)
