Since I did the speed sculpting video and I had to retopologize the orc anyway, I figured I might as well record it. I didn't quite finish in this video and some parts I will go back and change, but like the sculpting video it just gives an idea of my workflow.

  • what is topology and retopology??

im new in 3D, please do help.

    why do we need it??

  • @Vickramjason Topology refers to the layout of the polygons. Very dense meshes like detailed sculptures are not practical to use for animation so, like in this video, you build new polygons, or topology, on top of it. Thus, retopology.

  • I definitely like the way this program retops. I'll be getting this instead and using my older version of zbrush alongside it. Was really cool as already mentioned how you can draw in lines to cover bigger area's faster.

  • @x900lbGorillax1 if you want speed look at the auto-retopo "autopo" tools. Of course you should take a look at the sculpting and texturing tools too if you want real power.

  • hey man i rememebr you from cgtalk forum

cool retopo man should give 3dc a try

  • @emanueldasilva1 Thanks if you're interested I have a 5 page 3DC tutorial in the June issue of 3D World magazine (#143).

  • @Vickramjason

OMG..!! i would have never guessed that..!!

Thankyou so very much for the info. Phil.

  • @philnolan3d Nice! That could be very useful at times as I am still learning the ropes a lot lol. Thanks man!

  • @philnolan3d cool man i might just do that thanks

  • Hey dude I'm really loving this autoretopology, I'm having serious problems though when I export it. It retopologises fine but when I go to export it, I try to export it as a low-poly mesh .obj file and when I import this file to 3dsMax it treats all the quads that 3dcoat made as Tri's and retains virtually none of the edge flow as if it wasn't even retopologised at all.If theres any knack to exporting just the retopology frame of polygons or this is just a common problem please let me know! :p
