We have fostered over 50 dogs throughout the past few years. Popeye is our first paralyzed foster.

We don't know what caused Popeye's paralysis. He was found as a stray already a paraplegic. 3 vets said to put him down because it would just be the easier thing to do--not easier for Popeye, easier for the humans.

Thankfully there was a whole network of caring individuals and groups looking out for him until he came to us as a foster dog. Popeye's stiff hind legs were eventually amputated for fear of infection, trauma, or other injury and because they were just getting in his way and causing stress to the rest of his body.

We hope seeing Popeye will help to change people's preconceived notions of those who are handicapped. He is an incredible dog. A happy dog. He does not realize he is any different than any other dog. Popeye may have once been a victim, but now he is a conquerer.

For Popeye's complete story, visit http://www.PopeyeTheDog.com. At the top right corner of that page, there is a link to his Adoption Ad which tells his story as far as we know it.

  • Awe!

  • stupendo meraviglioso unico complimenti

  • what a little beauty. Give him a tickle under the chin from me.

  • how could you look into those eyes and think he is not happy? that he needs to be put down? Ugh sometimes I don't get people. Disabled pets just need a little more care is all not to be put down.

  • who cares if his legs are paralyzed.. if he was mine... id be holding him staring into his cute little eyes anyway (;

  • Popeye's adorable - he sure can get around!

  • @pcmartins He's got wheels in some of the video! Look how fast he can move!

  • Dogs like these could be used for great benefits by showing children, people who are sick or disabled, or everyday average people how you can still be happy, how you can still wag your tail, how you can forget about your shortcomings and still enjoy life even with very big disabilities. This dog has a bigger heart, and a better attitude than 98% of the humans on this planet.

  • he need some wheels

  • disabledanimal has adoptions, help and the ability to list disabled animals - it's for those who have a soft spot in their hearts for these precious ones :)
