Ron Paul has introduced H.R. 2415 to get the ball rolling for he reduction of the price of gasoline in the United States. Here is the summary found at OpenCongress.org To reduce the price of gasoline by allowing for offshore drilling, eliminating Federal obstacles to constructing refineries and providing incentives for investment in refineries, suspending Federal fuel taxes when gasoline prices reach a benchmark amount, and promoting free trade.

Contact your US Representative to get them behind Ron Paul on this matter. Remember, he is still doing a great deal in Congress and we need to re-emphasize that, unlike other candidates, he doesn't shirk on proposing bills and doing his work in the House in spite of being on the campaign trail.

This will also help with Ron Paul's cause in general because if this bill can pass it will show that he has "gravitas."

  • The cheaper gas is the quicker we will waste it.

  • Your idea is sophomoric. People don't waste things because they're inexpensive, although it is definitely an individual's right to waste.

Why would anybody want to spend the same volume of money necessary for essentials and instead spend it on "waste?" More to the point, who cares if they're "wasting" it so long as it is creating wealth?

  • I'm CONVINCED that the EPA is under Big Oil control, and that 99.9% of these so called "environmental" groups are funded by Big Oil. Why else would they be against nuclear power which is cheaper and cleaner than oil and poses no threat to the public? God forbid these greedy Big Oil leeches should have to compete in a free market!!!

  • I agree with you. If we eliminate excessive governmental controls and mindless bureaucracies like the EPA there would be true competition.

  • Those 100+ refineries that have closed, most if not all of them were closed due to outrageous EPA requirements. One near where I live in Indianapolis, Indiana was called "Rock Island". The EPA was going to hit them with so much in fines and repair procedures to the "damaged environment" that Marathon decided to just shut it down. Similar things are happening all over.

  • I have no problem with refineries closing, it's the prevention of new refineries from opening that I find to be the problem. If local pressure and/or inability to meet market needs pressures a facility to shut down then so be it, but the government is in no position to demand such things.

  • This bill is almost enough to make me reconsider Ron Paul as a Presidential candidate.

This issue is HUGE. Above illegal immigration. Above the war in Iraq.

America's economy is waning now, largely because of the cost of oil. We need an emergency measure to develop our own resources offshore before it is too late.

  • lets not be so dependent on oil as the only source of fuel. Of course oil companies have squelched new energy sources...they know about them and hide them and do not develope them. Greed man is a very ugly thing.

  • Oil is a finite resource and if consumption continues then reduction of supply is inevitable.

Wealth is a man made concept.

  • I am just one man, but i know that I am more likely to use my car more when it has fuel in it. I am more likely to fill it up when prices are down.

Also in my home city of Brisbane bycycle useage and public transport patronage had skyrocketed in the past few years. These trends are mostly due to gas price increses.

(all that data is in the public domain, anyone can access it.)

  • Hey Ernest, socialism failed, buddy.

  • Anybody who "believes" in a "free market" reducing prices for the America consumer also "believes" in the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy, not to mention the whole Judeo-Christian fantasy.
