I actually saw one car try to beat the train on the other side of US 59, then he tried to reverse back out of the crossing when he saw how close the train was and got a facefull of gate. The train's engineer actually saw him and was able to stop in time, but the look on the driver's face was priceless.

The Main Street Monster is on another run down main street, gobbling up a few cars and snackin on people and goin back to its cave on Holmes Rd and Fannin..

That is beacuse if you instill them the other way cars will hit the lights.

@microbusss So that traffic can continue to move. At this intersection in particular there are a lot of METRO buses, and to have each of them stop legally would tie up traffic, so they made sure to cover that by making it an exempt crossing. This also extends to other vehicles such as school buses that are legally required to stop.
