If you're wondering what Doc Severinsen (82 as of this concert) is up to these days, if he's really "retired," if he still plays his trumpet, what he sounds like, if he continues to record, and if he still tours, then watch this slideshow as Doc Severinsen, Gil Gutiérrez (guitar), Charlie Bisharat (violin), Jimmy Branly (percussion) and Kevin Thomas (bass) perform "El Farol" from the Gil & Cartas "El Ritmo De La Vida" CD. Doc plays a Destino III trumpet, which is manufactured by world-renowned S.E. Shires Co. He still tours, but performs regularly in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, with Gil Gutiérrez and Pedro Cartas (who did not perform at this live concert). These photos were taken by me on June 11, 2010 during his concert at the Nevada County Fairgrounds in Grass Valley, CA, as part of the "Music in the Mountains" festival.

  • Always been fascinated by Doc and his trumpet - even back in the Johnny Carson days - then heard him with Mariachi Cobre in Milwaukee - WOW! And his love for the Latin music - and then teaming up with Guttierez on guitar. GOD GIVEN TALENT TO BOTH ! Would love to see them both if they perform in San Miguel de Allende or wherever - would LOVE to know where or when ? I think he said he lives in San Miguel ?

  • @purachela1 Yes, I believe he lives in San Miguel de Allende, and performs there regularly.

Check out his tour schedule for the next several months on his website.

  • hi there , thanks for this great slide show, can you send me some photos for publiciti and how we can promote this?...saludos gil

  • @gilgutierrezmusic Yes, I replied to you in a private message.

  • This is the great Doc Severinsen with Mexican guitarist Gil Gutierrez presenting the band "El Ritmo de la Vida" with violinist Charlie Bisharat, percussionist Jimmy Branly, and bassist Kevin THomas.

  • @gilgutierrezmusic I was very impressed with your virtuosity on the guitar. You are very talented (but you know that ;-) and I listen to your music often. I was very happy with these photos I took of Doc and your group during this concert at the Nevada County Fairgrounds in Grass Valley, California, on June 11, 2010. They made for a nice slideshow on YouTube. Anything I can do to advertise your group, I'm happy to do it.

  • @fhr331 I wanted to see them that night, but I couldn't. I hope Doc comes around again.

  • I saw this group perform on Monday(1/24/11) in CT. --They sound great and Doc still plays a mean horn. Guttierez on guitar and Bishart on violin also fantastic. If you get a chance to see them -go!

  • very good. often similar to his early 70's, 'california,' sound.
