Schematic: http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii151/cameramanlink/SimpleOscilloscope-1.gif
Homemade oscilloscope built from scratch. It uses recycled parts from a Heathkit scope, including the main chassis, transformer, CRT, cabinet, and other parts. I found the circuit in a book that showed a bare-bones oscilloscope circuit. This is not a high quality scope, but it can be used for simple waveform observation and "watching" music as seen in the video. The sound input of the left camcorder was connected in parallel with the scope's vertical input. The CD player was connected to this junction.

  • Super cool build :)

What's the name of the song, anyway?

  • @GiorgioCapocasa Thanks! It's just a song that I made with GarageBand.

  • awesome.!

  • @SmashCOBamberg You should check out my next upload (coming in a few hours from now). It's a scope kit that dates back to 53 as part of an in-home training program from DeVry Technical Institute. Included in the training program were kits for the scope, signal generators, radios, and even a 20 some inch TV you make from scratch! I wish I could do this program! Thanks for stopping by.

  • Oscilloscopes are very useful as you know. I also built a HeathKit tube Oscope, may have been this model. I used it a lot and then took another HeathKit course and part of it was building a transistorized Oscope. I think I have built three altogether. Got to have an Oscilloscope.

  • @AllAmericanFiveRadio They are VERY useful! I don't know what I'd do without my scope, especially when I get around to making my superheterodyne AA5. Have you made any videos of scopes you've made? I'd like to see them if you have them around, especially a transistor-based scope. The only scopes I know of that are solid state are the new digital ones with color LCD :)

How is the "secret project" coming along?

  • The SP is going good so far.

  • @ytmachx Those Heathkit scopes are nice. I use one on my bench and it's from the 60s...works perfectly! The one I scrapped wasn't in such good condition (eBay find for cheap), so I decided to try this experiment with a stripped-down circuit design. The results are less than satisfactory, but it was a learning experience.

  • I have the complete, working, Heathkit scope that you started with.
