"A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens is a poignant account of how Ebenezer Scrooge found redemption after being visited by the ghost of his deceased business partner, Jacob Marley and three more ghosts: the Ghost of Christmas Past, the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come and the Ghost of Christmas Present. Performed by Orson Welles and an accompanying cast this is a story of the greed and tyranny which dwelt in the heart of Ebenezer Scrooge at Christmas time in nineteenth century England.

It is a moving story of the relative contentment of the Cratchit family who had little and an ominous portrayal of the misery of Ebenezer Scrooge who had plenty. Most of all, this is just a wonderful Christmas story written by a man who knew and understood poverty intimately and whose father was twice imprisoned in the Marshalsea debtors' prison in Southwark, London.

This program was broadcast from the CBS Mercury Theater/Campbell Playhouse. It is believed to have aired in 1939.
