The long awaited review/discussion of the biggest cult sci-fi cheese fest of the early 80′s is finally here for your auditory perusal! A bombastically garish and over-the-top 35 million dollar sci-fi epic that tried to ride the coattails of Star Wars but flopped at the theatrical box office. Flash Gordon has since found an extremely loyal and vocal audience on VHS, DVD, and now Blu-Ray.

You'd be hard pressed to find a more blatantly campy big budget cult classic than 1980′s Flash Gordon. A movie that unabashedly revels in it's unbridled comic-bookness. Not to mention the contagiously immature energy that the stellar cast imbues every scene with. Brian Blessed, Max Von Sydow, and Peter Wyngarde all chew the scenery with the best of them and what's not to like about the alluring/slutty Ornella Muti along with the swashbuckling Timothy Dalton. Even Sam Jones manages to acquit himself well in his one and only lead role. It's hard for your inner child not to get excited over the flashy costumes, gaudy sets, and old-school sfx. Of course one of the most memorable components of Flash Gordon has got to be its rock soundtrack from none other than Queen. All these elements come together in a way that hasn't happened since and while it may not exactly be what you'd call quality filmmaking it is entertainment of the highest order!

The Hard Cast and the Savior of the Universe are teaming up to take down Ming the Merciless and we need your help to overcome the many obstacles in our way. We're gonna have to deal with trippy lava-lamp clouds, archaic rituals which involve fisting a tree trunk, uncoordinated goon-guys, and naughty telepathic messages. Take heart because in the end Flash will save everyone of us! Except the lizardmen...
