2008 marked the start of the Rehabilitation of the Body Ponds Watershed Project through the Forestry Division with close collaboration with the Environment Division.
The Body Ponds Rehabilitation Project aims are:
oSurvival of remaining biodiversity and increase biodiversity
oControl fires and control and remove the Lemon Grass
oReforest the watershed with native and indigenous species
oPromote sustainable farming practices
oIncrease water attraction and retention
oReduce erosion and runoff
oIncrease potential as a tourist amenity
Within these aims the SIRMM Project has embarked on a public awareness scheme with collaboration from Gilberts Agriculture and Rural Development Center (GARDC). One of the main outputs of the public awareness schemes is a public service announcement on the adverse impacts of fires.
