Marfan Syndrome which Bradford has used to be more dire of a diagnosis than it is today.

Essentially, along with giving people very long spidery limbs & fingers, it also makes certain body tissues too elastic, including the heart's aortic valve, which over time causes enlargement of the aorta, and it can eventually grow so stretched that the aortic walls rupture causing instant death. BUT, it can be surgically corrected which Brad's was at 16. Brad stands a fair chance at a long life now.
