This shows that with Japanese people, even if they come off rude, or arrogant, they still uphold their honor, and are honest without any gimmicks.

The "I wasn't expecting much from him" is so incredibly rude. Even a child would have enough sense to know better than to say this. The Japanese have accomplished so much and then people like this just have to ruin it for everyone and make them look like a bunch of xenophobic, rude, stupid people.

WOW, he beat the KING of iron chefs! :] I usually want sakai to win, but i am happy for siegal.

@sjtaku I admire how humble you are :]

congratulations on that win Ron Siegel over Hiroyuki Sakai. i would have love to see him battle with the other Iron Chefs but that will never happen now. Iron Chef America is ok but it no where near Ryōri no Tetsujin(Iron CheF) was.

He didn't look too excited about winning...

@picjusbro I think there was a bit of racism on the side of the Japanese judges, but I think some of that is the fact that Siegel is an American chef specifically.
Up until the 2000's, American chefs didn't have much respect on the world stage. It's been mostly remedied today in that America now has Chefs respected worldwide, but that wasn't the case in the 90's. Siegel was not only working against the insular nature of the Japanese, but the poor reputation of US Chefs at the time.

Anyone beating Sakai in a sweep is consider the candidate of best chef in the world even though Sakai's Achille's heel is lobster.

Siegel > Flay.
Flay has his own assistants on ICA and he STILL can't win half his battles. Some "Iron Chef".

"We Japanese have the best tongue in the world" oh man... give me a break.
I don't think that guy even worths being a judge.
I feel embarassased.
