VICTORIA - Winter is the peak time of year for Norovirus, a mild but highly infectious vomiting and diarrhea illness that can spread rapidly through families and institutions.
The Vancouver Island Health Authority is currently dealing outbreaks at both Nanaimo Regional and Victoria General Hospitals.
Strict hygiene protocols have been put in place including visitor limitations, while VIHA is reminding those in the community to take extra care when washing their hands this time of year.
If you think you have Norovirus symptoms, you're asked to call the Healthrisk BC Nurse at 811, instead of going to the emergency room.
