  • Don't know much about this kind of music but they make a nice sound, happy and sad at the same time. The mandolin looks very old, are they like violins, and sound better as they age?

  • Bill Monroe's Gibson F-5 mandolin has a date on the label of July 9th, 1923. He bought it used in the early 1940s.

    Most instrumets that are played a lot do improve with age; in the case of Monroe's mandolin, this was especially true. At the height of his career, Monroe was playing way over 200 shows a year.
