Potes Garage Fire Roaring Spring PA Oct 7 2010.wmv

Fire at Potes Garage just outside Roaring Spring Boro at 10:30 am on October 7 2010. The fire was started when a gas tank being removed from a car fell on a trouble light and ignited. When crews arrived garage was fully involved. Fire fighters encountered difficulty due to the older structure and gusty winds. One minor injury was reported. The garage and apartment were a total loss and several vehicles were destroyed. Video by Ron Giffin

You get these experts in firefighting they either have ben to a couple of schools or they work for large city and they all think they are experts. They dont realize that 80% of the FF in this country are volunteer, Many communities have only 2 or 3 people near the station or avalible in the day time. Those of us who understand say you did a good job. The kibitzers, they dont understand.

I am a Chief of a rural area, and we have a saying "Big fire......Big water". I suggest a few more folks wearing SCBAs might be a good idea. Just a suggestion.

@scotty261gfd I would love..LOVE to have seen you jump that fire with two men and a 1 3/4 line. You wouldn't have been in there long, I promise you. I have 25 years paid and 10 years volunteer. Just so you don't think I'm...uh...blowing smoke.

2 guys with a pair of balls on them and a 1 3/4 would of done the job not sitting back and just blasting the fuck out of it with a 2 1/2

Since I'm a Chief I should not ever do any "work" at a fire, if command has been established I always watch out for and supervise from the "front line".

Seems to me they did what they were supposed to do given the shortage of personnel on scene. They established a water supply and attacked the fire with the 2 1/2. They also pulled another 1 3/4 line the white hat was using. Good job with the resources they had.

Fire Dept. In experenced. Sorry for the owner. A bunch of fire ext. with old women would have done a better job. Big fire...Big water... He is right!
