@TheKittenish Because for the longest time Matt had no official hair "color" - however the tone they used was similar to lights - therefore it would make sense his haircolor would be similar to Light's. How they got dark brown for the anime from that tone is beyond me....and dark red from the white stripes as well. Meh. I always like Near = white, Mello = black, and Matt = black and white....

No. They didn't. Matt was not colored in the manga, and fans randomly decided that red was "correct". However, the official coloring is brown hair and blue eyes, courtesy of the anime.
