http://www.pbs.org/wnet/nature/episodes/frogs-the-thin-green-line/introductio... Tyrone Hayes and his students from the University of California at Berkeley are studying how agricultural chemicals, including fertilizers and pesticides, are affecting the health of frogs. Pesticides in runoff can cause an increase in stress hormones and lead to immunosuppression in frogs. In some cases Hayes has found that the presence of atrazine, a common agricultural chemical, can even cause frogs that are genetically male to develop as females and produce eggs.

"Frogs: The Thin Green Line" airs on PBS Sunday, April 18, 2010 at 8 pm (check local listings). "Frogs: The Thin Green Line" is part of the 28th season of the Peabody and Emmy award-winning series produced by Thirteen in association with WNET.ORG for PBS. Major support provided by Canon U.S.A. Inc. For more information, visit http://www.pbs.org/wnet/nature/episodes/frogs-the-thin-green-line/introductio...

  • @pieceofparadox The ignorance of this comment is so substantial I could cut it with a knife..

  • As if puberty really needed to be any more drastic for frogs. x:

  • good work.

  • wow...

  • if these chemicals make frogs mutate then i can see why people are born with both genders, and why baby's are born deformed, even more so why men and woman get hormone problems. its easy to see here in this video at point 3:34 where frogs are both male and female because of chemical. i believe chemicals cause lots of problems, Why, because the human body is made of many chemicals,it dont take much to change it,once chemical change happens it may take Years or more to reverse.

  • do anyone know what the name fo the frogs he is researching on ?

  • Tyrone Haynes is a great scientist and is trying to tell us a message that is far more important than anything you will see on CNN tonight. If the amphibians and the bees go WE go with them! Wake up and let our children know what whave done here!

  • It is a sad commentary on the times that some folks are more interested in earrings than in the very serious environmental issues highlighted in this clip. We are so fortunate to have talented and concerned scientists working in this field. We should get out of our toxic lifestyles and our trance of denial about what is happening to our world before it is too late. What is happening to frogs now will be happening to all life on earth if we don't wake up and change our world!

  • So you've never been to the Bay Area I take it?
