the cow sounded like it was in serious pain

awesome work

Flaming heck! She's pulling on that calf like it was a block of wood! I hope the calf was okay and that nothing was damaged afterwards.

The only thing upsetting about this video was the nasaly whining bitch behind the camera. Damn, shut up already !
-
Did you try any oxytocin prior to pulling?? This would've helped her out some. However she looked like she was straining. Hopefully no issues post-partum?

Don't listen to any of these folks. They have obviously never ranched or pulled. If it gets to the point where you have to call your vet and the vet says pull, you better hurry up and pull or your gonna lose the calf. You did perfect!

you could have let her do the rest : O gawd

If your vet was coming why did you even bother touching the poor thing, you could have broke it's leg, wrenched the mothers insides and all sorts of other issues, one or two pulls might helped the new mother to continue. As you saw even three hours after the calf was just fine. hell I've seen video's of sheep having a baby six hours after the " water break" it might mean danger ,but if it was facing the right way leave the damn thing alone.
Well. I am vet of 9 years experience and the idiocy of lay people never fails to astonish me. This is a small calf in perfect presentation. The birth was made to appear difficult by clueless panicking unskilled folk pulling out of synch against a non fully dilated canal. God help the beast if she does actually ever have a problem!

@spareknobba Well 9 year vet, apparently you didn't read the video caption: I pulled after consulting my vet who was on his way because Rain had made no progress although the water had broken 3 hours earlier. I bet you have a great practice with such a charming stall side manner:)

@brandivint Thanks for the support. I pay more attention to my vet than random commenters on youtube:)

What rubbish....calf was perfectly presented and the mother was contracting normally, she would have easily calved on her own

@macgriff66 Well since the water had broken 3 hours earlier and there was zero progress--no little hooves or anything, my vet said "go ahead and try to find the feet." But you probably know more than my vet--I just didn't have your phone number at the time:)
