Appologies for lack of video quality and also my strong Scottish accent.
Brushed Motor Break In.
I recently purchased 2 x 700 sized motors from Kershaw Design's for my HPI E Savage. To break in the motors, it's recommended to run them at a low voltage for approx 1 hour underwater. This in theory when using low voltage beds in the brushes better than not running in and performance increases of up to 20% can be achieved aswell as better efficiancy and longer life.
I think 1 hour is excessive and it's a pain to keep charging batterys so i'll do 30 minutes per motor approx
Running them in underwater prevents arcing and pitting on the comm. The water cleans away dust aswell. Be sure to dry off batterys and motor after doing this. Once motor break in is completed (time depeands on brushes used in motor - stock motors with seal ed endbell designed for high volts approx 1 hours worth at 3-5v. 7.2 volt motors approx half this time. I used an old 3300mah 6 cell pack that was not branded by any decent company and was old to make 2 x 3.6cell packs. AA batterys were discharging too fast and heating up too much. once motors are dry and run in is completed be sure to use light oil to lube the comm bushing. Do this every 5 packs or so and clean with motor/switch cleaner to maintain performance. Any questions, please ask. This is my first attempt at motor break in

  • can u tell me what is the point of putting a brushed motor in water?

im new on rc's cars, motors, ect ect

    hope u gimme me a awer !

  • It's complex to explain, but it helps the brushes inside the motor have a better contact with the communicator. It can shorter the motors life a little but usually makes them run cooler and perform better.
