KICK is proud to present an initiative called IN THEIR SHOES, which exists to gain perspective of the lives that some children experience in South Africa. This project creates an authentic week-long experience for students and working men of some of the realities that the people living on the streets deal with every day of their lives.

10 men will live on the streets of Port Elizabeth for 5 days with nothing but the clothes on their backs and 1 item to help generate an income. Over the homeless period the team will need to use their item to generate money which they will use to buy food while they are on the streets. The team is limited to spending a total of R50 a day on food.

No begging will be allowed, and under no circumstances are any volunteers allowed to take jobs away from the people genuinely living on the streets (no car-guarding, vendors, selling newspapers, begging, etc).

Shot and Edited: Ross Charnock

Gear: Canon 7D, Sigma 30mm f1.4, Sigma 70-200 f2.8, Sigma 24-70 f2.8, Glidetrack shooter.

  • @RossCharnock or maybe a coil out of paper where posters will be transported in:

    :D

  • @lJackl I was going to get my sister to sew me a custom bag, but haven't gotten around to it... I guess I tripod bag could work... basically anything to keep the track getting bashed about...

  • @RossCharnock Oh thank you for this tip (car boots). Can you advise a bag?

  • @lJackl I suppose the 'legs' are quiet useful sometimes... would be better though if he put them on both sides... If the money isn't really a problem then don't worry about it... Also buy/make a bag for it, or be very careful when taking it out of car boots (trunks), the slider can dent very easily :/

  • @RossCharnock Thanks mate for your answer. I buyed a glidecam 2000 hd but send it back, because it is to heavy with 24-70 mm lense and a west with arm to expensive. :(

Why i should buy the normal version? It costs a only few dollars less and i can not arrange it angular (the shooter can with these plastic grips. :)

Or has you more pro's and contra's for me? :)

  • @lJackl Hi Jack. I bought the 0.5m SD shooter. It happy takes the 7D with the 24-70mm and a 701 HDV head. I've only used it on the shoulder once, and I wouldn't recommend it for this. Very uncomfortable. What can work though, is to hold it at each end (like hold a tray), this gives you a budget glidecam look (better than nothing :P). I'd say save the cash and get the normal (non shooter) version. It doesn't bend at all on a tripod too, 1m version does a little though...

  • Do you buy a glidetrack shooter sd or hd? Is a 7D with 24-70mm lense to heavy for a sd shooter? Does it wiggle if you use it on your shoulder? And then 0.5m? Can you use it on a tripod without deforming the bar? Thx :)

  • @RossCharnock dang thats early, but for a great cause, good luck, looks like the full vid will be great! congrats on the vid for original btw!!
