This was a trip to Philmont Scout Ranch, by Boy Scouts from Northwest Iowa's Prairie Gold Council. These are from the first two weeks of their 30 day trip, between August 1st and 14th, 1943. They were filmed by my Great Uncle Robert McGowan, who was one of the adult leaders. The other leader was Elson Fischer of Algona, along with 16 boys. Some of the other names were: Joe Weber of Sac City; Hubert Carroll of Fort Dodge; Dick Schutter of West Bend; Alvin Mauer of LeMars; Charles Officer of Burt; Donald Nelson of Lone Rock and Roger Ditzel who had a connection to LuVerne.
and going to Santa Claus from Head of Dean (or to Ute Gulch from Sawmill, which is more likely considering the next shot is of a big meadow, likely the one by the Cito Turnaround) at 4:07. Also I can't seem to figure out what the spot is at 5:40 with the horses.

Wow!!! This so, so great, thanks so much for uploading it! It's really awesome to see what Philmont was like almost 70 years ago. Here are some speculations of mine (and others) of the various locations: Fish Camp @ 2:18, Crater Lake @ 5:51, Cathedral Rock/Cito Reservoir @ about 5:28, Ponil Trading Post and Cantina @ 3:23,
