Bangalore Dance Collective

Bangalore Dance Collective is a dream of many people. Its formed by people from different walks of life, working together with a firm belief in Contemporary Art. Our dream is to achieve excellence in performing arts, and via arts contribute to the society. The main focus of the collective is to create a fun filled working atmosphere and work with people from various art forms while creating an open platform for people to showcase their talents.
Dance, they say, is movement stretched. When our body moves, what does it want to say? In our search for a language, a definitive vocabulary for the body, what role does text have? These are a few of the fundamental questions this piece tries to answer. NEW TRASH is a devised piece where text and movement are woven together in an attempt to come up with a unique language that transcends both text and movement; and yet, contains both of them. The performance begins with dancers responding with their body to a spoken word performance and moves on to a point where the dancers take lines from the text itself. It also involves the element of mimesis. The piece is in many ways a perspective, where, the relationship between movement and text is taken to its extremities. The text and movement vocabulary used in the piece convey a sense of disjoint spaces and their merger in time space, choreographed by Abhilash Ningappa.
Abhilash Ningappa has graduated in Dance choreography from Salzburg experimental academy of dance in Austria. He is also a black belt in Karate, a yoga practitioner and has received training in Kalaripayattu. He initially began his dance training at the Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts. He continued training under different teachers from all over the world. Though he has knowledge on different styles of contemporary dance, he mainly focuses on floor techniques and partnering - David zambranos Flying Low Technique, Frey fausts Dynamic Geometry, Jozef Fruzeks Martial art influence in contemporary dance. He has also taken part in Dance festivals in Salzburg experimental academy of dance, Impulstanz festival, spring dance festival, Netherlands and in Tanzquartier, Vienna.
