Does anyone know how safe it is to have 2 x kids in the back boot, without any seat belts? And in the crumple zone? What happens if this got rear-ended in a crash?

As always, almost all of your questions can be found on my FAQ page - http://www.dashcamvideo.co.uk/faq

  • Was this shot on the 4th of January, or the 1st of April? It looks like it might be at least cool out, seeing the people walking on the pavement. ; > }

  • First generation 5 door Discovery's are 7 seaters, with 2 fold down side facing seats and were generally fitted with lap belts, so all legal.

  • Definitely not a safe decision to have any occupants in the cargo area. I dont understand why car manufacturers put the "third" row in the back of SUVs, at the crumple zone. Don't recall any safety test in regards to that.The driver/front passenger have engine compartment crumple zone and the back is just as important. When I bought my SUV the first thing saleman tried to sell me was the third row. My dad had that Land Rover when I was young. The lap belts in the back were a joke.

  • I personally would not like my children to use lapbelts, if this was the only option, then the adults will have to get in the back & the kids brought forward. I always give priority to my kids. 1 other thing, do u c some people in winter wrapped up with gloves & all on, & there children with the (virtually) summer clothes on..... idiots, they look after themselves but not there kids.......

  • @2012whitepower Just because there are lap belts, does not mean that they are being used.

  • The parents should really get the children to stay seated.Unfortunately this is not a one off.

  • I suppose the risk is reduced what with it being a land rover but as a parent would you want to take the risk. Of course you wouldn't.

  • NOT safe at all! Once saw 2 little kids in the back of a sedan, with NO belts on at all. both where jumping around. The little girl i motioned to SIT down! She did.

    the little boy however, (younger than his sister) climbed onto the rear parcel shelf and lay down in the back window!

    Mum took off, & the kid stayed there! NEITHER parent did anything to stop the kid. I noted the reggo and called the police i was so disgusted!

    I tried to get their attention but they were oblivious! Foreigners!

  • @fleetwoodsucks STOP being a Danger Nazi!
