It's a song that sounds like it has been around for a hundred years, but "Make Somone Happy" was actually written with music by Jule Styne and lyrics by Adolph Green and Betty Comden for the 1960 musical production of "Do Re Mi". Jimmy Durante's version of the song was recorded in 1965 with Gordon Jenkins arranging and conducting the orchestra.

  • @chazdesimone I, too, have gotten caught up in old ads, for Maypo, Alka-Seltzer, etc., as well as shows like "Gerald McBoing Boing," and "Winky Dink," so you're not the only one. :D

  • @YY4Me133 At least I can remember some things! I've had a splendid evening getting lost in the "old days" of entertainment on YouTube. Sometimes I even watch old commercials and entire Dick Van Dyke episodes. Thanks for the reply. Made ME happy!

  • @chazdesimone We're around the same age, but you seem to have a much better memory than I when it comes to old TV shows. I recall watching him on TV, maybe on his show, on other shows, and/or in movies, but I have no specific memories except that he always made me smile. Still does.

My favorite Ray Charles is, and probably will always be, "Hit the Road Jack." It, too, makes me smile. I like things that do that. :o)

  • @YY4Me133 I'm 60, so I remember his TV shows. He always "made people happy" around him and he was very generous. I think what makes him so appealing is his inner goodness comes through in his, as you say, "singing." He also reminded me of my own dad, with that bulbous Italian schnoz. Some of my favorite Durante songs are the ones that relate to his older age, such as "September Song" and "I'll Be Seeing You." Tear jerkers. Along the same lines, listen to Ray Charles' "Old Man River."

  • What an honor that this song is part of his Legacy.

  • @jimbritttn It is a shame that the great music that we grew up with as children is gone forever except with the Old Vinyl Records, and thanks to new technology of YouTube that keeps our Memories Alive.... Sir David
