Thank you very much for this exceptional song and for extraordinary singer like Mahalia Jackson. Whatever the way she sang this song always touched the souls. The lyrics of the song is very meaningful that expresses simply "the appreciation" in which there is sadly very little in today's world. I loved His Word say in Psalms 91:11 and pray that the world will be charged over by His Angels and will be more compassionate and better place! Have a lovely day..

  • Thank you so much for viewing and commenting.

  • i love this testimony. fits me to a tee.i thank god for sending his angel to touch me one more time.umm umm bless you for your posting i play it every day

  • Thank you so much for sharing your comment about this song and I thank God for you, and want you to know His Word say in Psalms 91:11,

For he will give his angels charge over thee, To keep thee in all thy ways. Thanks again.

  • I think she sang it differently before different audiences. She always sang it more jazzy and laid back before White American or European audiences whereas with Black American audiences for whom the song was also a socio-politcal metaphor of the fight for equality it took on a different meaning and so she could tear through it being able to relate with it on EVERY level spiritually as well as socially/culturally.

  • How i got over, wow, sorry people for the problems i cause.....

  • Thanks you soo much for posting this song of inspiration in Jesus Christ!! I am 33 years old and I wish more songs like this were sung in churches today. I do not like today's gospel music because it sounds so much like the world and the gospel artists seem to be only in it for the money and not spreading the gospel of Jesus throughout the world!

Jesus, I pray that we can obtain more virtue in the church and truly worship you with our whole heart and mind stayed on You!! In Jesus' name!

  • SHe woulda been 100 years old this year

  • This is incredible! & brings back so many memories of my childhood. Our Mom loved Ms. Jackson & played her music over & over. She was & is an inspiration to many people but especially Black who were going through many ups & downs that children didn't even understand. Thank-you! Thank-you! Thank-you! God Bless!

  • i used to sing this song in our sunday school choir....early 70's....it still touches me today. Michaela is truly a gift to us from the Lord Jesus....I still listen with tears in my eyes.

Thank you for this wounderful post. God bless you

  • @DYNODRUM October 26, 1911 . . .

  • Another "Mahalia-ism": Never, EVER let ANYONE...tell you what you "can't" do! Music execs told her that she would never make it as an artist because she didn't breathe correctly, paused in all of the wrong places, and just couldn't "follow the rules" that mark a 'good' singer. (Same thing with Anita Baker). Thank God both these women followed their passion and in doing so, created NEW rules! Sometimes, the rules are sitting there just BEGGING to be broken!!!!

  • @BashaaniN N-a-w ...not entirely true now...Mahalia sang according to the way she felt God was LEADING her! I'm sitting here right NOW with tears in my eyes remembering her singing on The Ed Sullivan show and some others, when she sang the naked STANK out of this song I mean, ripped it so bad that the WHITE folk was crying, clapping, jumpin....it was off the fa-HINGES up in there! We were STUNNED but crying too at home, to see Mahalia's gifted voice impact White people like that!

  • Lovely!

  • Greatest singer that ever lived!! What a performance. I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) that's Mr. Preston on organ.
