@grandisdavid One thing you probably don't want to do as an aspiring conductor is start publicly trashing a professional singer's abilities. The professional music world is a lot smaller than you think and word does travel. I don't think anyone should criticize a professional singer's voice in such a destructive way and once people like yourself have taken into account how much more work goes into singing than just making a nice sound, you might reconsider whether your comment is valid.

@celloguy A very silly comment! His voice is indeed superb and his acting is likewise. (See his Gotterdammerung video, etc.)

You must decide: Do you love great music and great performers or Not?

I adore his voice - and its just perfect for this aria. But his facial contortions are not conducive to good opera acting. It's probably not too distruing when he's up on stage and the distance obscures things, but close up its very distracting.
